Editor of The Paris News

"Paris was a rebuilding town of 7,000 people when Edward B. Norment arrived from Tennessee in 1885.

"Most of the business section had been destroyed by a fire eight years before, and its citizens were still busy rebuilding it, but Norment found a good town with good prospects.

"It was there he started an insurance agency in 1889 and formed a partnership--Sluder & Norment--in 1893 with W. H. Sluder. Sluder had been in the insurance business as Sluder and Co. since 1872.

"After Sluder's death in 1896, the insurance firm changed its name to Norment & Broad to include a new partner, C. I. Broad.

"Norment & Broad represented insurance companies that had impeccable records of paying every claim after the great fire of 1916.

"It was on that record that Norment and Broad built its record of providing the best insurance affordable.

"In 1919, Edward B. Norment's son, Edward D. Norment, became a member of the firm. Edward B. Norment died in 1928, and C. I. Broad retired in 1947. Edmond Castleberry joined the company in 1946.

"The firm's name remained unchanged until 1954, shortly after Edward D. Norment's son Robert became a member of the firm and Edward died in 1953.

"In 1954, the name was changed to Norment & Castleberry.

"In 1972, Paul Landers, a former Allstate Insurance Co. supervisor, became a partner.

"In 1979, Sims, a fourth-generation Norment, joined the firm, and in 1997, Jon Landers, Paul's son, joined the firm.

"The Norment & Castleberry name remained until 2000, when it became Norment & Landers.

"In January 2005, Norment & Landers merged with O'Connor Insurance Managers and Gary O'Connor joined the firm, and in March 2005, Rudy Kessel joined the firm.

"Norment & Landers Insurance is built on a reputation of constant service for over 138 years."
